CH Deerpath Vintage Hollywood TD MC, Niven, has some unique tracking characteristics. When he first started training, he was so excited he reminded me of a kid on an Easter egg hunt. The track was full of goodies, and he was hooked!
In those early days when he got to a turn he would jump up and turn in the air. It took a while before he did turns with nose on the ground. At one test on a windy March day, he was so excited to be outside after a long winter that he just raced in a circle around me at the start. I was desperately holding the leash above my head and thinking I was going to be the only tracking handler who would go down in history for being strangled by her dog during a test! He finally got started but took a right turn too early (maybe the wind was responsible), so we did not pass.
I made lots of handler errors with him so I turned him over to Teryl Lebkuecher, who got his TD on her first try.
